Advanced Subsea Engineering
This is an engineering design service focused on subsea facilities and backed up by an advanced engineering analysis capability. The advanced analysis capability is achieved through a combination of in-house developed tools and the application of third-party finite element tools such as ABAQUS and ANSYS customised by MCS Kenny for application in the subsea environment and to solve specific categories of problems. This engineering service is provided under the following headings:
Subsea Pipelines
- Vertical and lateral upheaval buckling analysis of subsea pipelines
- Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) analysis of pipe spans
- Stability analysis of subsea pipelines
- Pipeline installation analysis
- Internal fluid-pipeline structure modelling, including effects of slugging on pipeline structural response
- Analysis capability hinges on response of geometric nonlinearity, elastic-plastic response and pipeline-soil interaction modelling for intermittent contact and soil friction
Geotechnical and Arctic
- Advanced soil-structure modelling using Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian modelling. The structure or pipeline is modelled by a Lagrangian technique moving through an Eulerian based mesh for soil modelling
- Pile design and analysis
- Iceberg-soil scour modelling and pipeline impact for Arctic conditions
Component Design
- Application of finite element modelling to design subsea components such as clamps, end connectors, bend restrictors, etc
- Advanced flexible pipe cross-section analysis including interlayer slip-stick contact modelling
Subsea Structures Design
- Structural analysis and design of subsea structures such as pipeline end manifolds (PLEMs), subsea jumpers, manifolds, riser bases, riser arches
- Design capability backed up by advanced structural analysis capability
